The Annual Crochet Awards: The Flamies

Once again what started as a lark has taken off with leaps and bounds! The Annual Crochet Awards, meant to be some fun distractions have now, it seems become a rather “serious” affair (though never too serious with the CLF at the helm).

Q) How did the Flamies get started?

A) As with all things wacky in the CLF, on our message board, CLF Member Ellen Gormley (GoCrochet) requested an “Oscar’s ” like event for crochet. Her wish was my command. And voila we had the Annual Crochet Awards! The Ceremony takes place on Getting Loopy because CLF member, MaryBeth Temple (MBTemple) offered up her show, and voila, we have a ceremony! Starting for the 2011 Flamie Awards we’re having a live event in the Austin area in the great state of Texas!

Q) The Flamies? Why? What kind of name is that? And what does it have to do with crochet?

A)  That my friends is because of  the infamous (more famous?) Flaming Crochet Hook of Justice, that became the rallying cry early on in the beginnings of the CLF emergence. We thought Flamie was a great name for the award; that’s our story and we’re sticking to it!

Q) Do you get sponsors for the award?

A) You bet your magic S hook we do! However, to maintain  the integrity of the award process and the reputation we’ve worked so hard to build, we have developed sponsorship criteria.  To become a sponsor please contact Laurie Wheeler. Also, opportunities to sponsor the live event and other CLF activities are now available.

Q) Who does the nominating?

A) For the 2011 Awards (Being awarded in 2012) Laurie Wheeler will personally nominate designers, makers and companies for the awards in various categories. To widen the field Laurie will be noiminated individuals in no more than two categories. If you really love a design, designer, book or company feel free to send Laurie a message with your input.
