As the New Year rolled in I set the intention of crocheting a stitch a week. I’m hoping to try some “new to me” stitches as well as make some of my favorite “old standards” to create plenty of swatches to create a few sweaters this year. I like making “swatchers”, it’s like quilting only I don’t have to try to cut straight lines or use really sharp rolling cutting thingies. “Swatchers” are what I call my patch work sweaters and vests, I love piecing things together to get a good fit.
Due to working on the site and having unforeseen software switch ups I didn’t get Week 1’s blog post written up, though I did make the swatch. So, we’ll have

two blog posts this week. You can join with me or you can crochet your own stitch of the week, share it in your gallery or in the newly formed Stitch of the Week Group in the Free Members Area!
Also, I’m Craft Foxes Crochet Expert this week, so if you have questions ab
Week 1: Trellis V stitch (or as I like to call it, “The High Five Stitch”
The Red Swatch is created in a light chenille. To make this stitch you will crochet a base chain in multiples of 3 +3 (the =+3 counts as a Treble Croche
t). For this swatch I chained 15+3.
Row 1: Insert hook 5th stitch from hook (counts as 1trc and 1 sp),* trc, ch 3, trc in same space, sk st, trc, repeat from * to end of row, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: *sk st, trc into space, ch 3, trc in same space, sk st, trc, repeat to end of row, ch 3 turn.

Row 3 until you decided you had enough, repeat row 2.
I used worsted wt. wool for the green swatch and changed the high five up a bit. The green swatch uses the same instructions except you will ch 2 in between the trc.

I like this new stitch pattern, but it is confusing..Is the red swatch upside down??If you finished the swatch, wouldn’t the tail be at the top of your work and not at the bottom to show beginning of it all??I like to refer to pictures when i am attempting something different as a reference..Thanks if you can clear this up for me..
Thanks Dawn! You are correct the swatch is upside down. There are tails on both ends of the swatch, I have not woven them in yet, I keep long tails on my work for weaving in purposes.
Thanks for flipping it,it is now clear to me what i am supposed to be doing..That is such a pretty pattern,i can think of lots of things to make with it,shawls for one..By the way,i love your site..A friend tells me that it sounds militant..I told her, well you just don;t understand crocheters then,I.myself, turn very agressive when someone messes with my current work or jumbles up my yarn stash..Then again that love of crocheting unites us all as one front, doesn’t it??Looking forward to learning more new stitches or even some new takes on old ones..
Thanks! It’s pretty quick to work up, I think it would make a really cute scarf or shawl
