Stitch of the Week #7 Treble Trellis

For about three years I’ve played with this stitch and the idea of making a cute cardi for myself. It would be quick and ideal for our Spring weather. Sadly the last few years Spring has eluded the fair Pacific NW, so my inspiration has not moved past the dream stage. This year, fingers crossed, we’ll go back to having some lovely Spring time weather and my hook will be inspired to create a pretty linen or hemp cardi for me to wear when out hitting the nurseries in search of rare and elusive garden gnomes or that have to have weird plant!

This is what I call the treble trellis.  Alternating rows of treble crochet and half double give an interesting texture and height. The sample swatch is in a nice acrylic, but I have seen this work wonderfully with hemp and linen as well! In fact that spring cardi is going to be made with some lovely green Euroflax linen I scored in an LYS sale bin a few years ago.

To make this stitch pattern, create a base chain to the desire length

Row 1. half double crochet into second ch from hook, hdc into each st, turn.

Row 2.  ch 4 (counts as 1 trc), trc into each stitch, turn

Row 3. ch 1 (counts as 1 hdc), hdc into each stitch

Repeat until you have the piece you want :D

Now for a little gift for members!  I want to thank all of the CLF 3.0 members for joining with a cute little pattern for a crocheted heart!

Use this to make jewelry, embellish hats, scarves, even journals or potted plants!

Just click the heart to read more about it!
