Who is this Fearless Leader person?


Fearless leader, is also known as Laurie Wheeler and can be found on Ravelry.com as Camanomade. Laurie Wheeler is the founder of the Crochet Liberation Front, webmaster, blogger, crocheting fiend, and friend to all who hook. She is also the editor of the Crochet Liberation Front, First Ever Book.  Laurie is also a proud member of the Crochet Guild of America and of the International Free Form Guild.

Um isn't Fearless Leader a strange thing to call yourself?

Oh absolutely, but Laurie didn't start out by calling herself Fearless Leader, she called herself the Grand High Head Poohbah, Big Cheese and Global Dominatrix, so as you can see she has zero ego investment in her titles. The members of the CLF began referring to her as Fearless Leader and it just stuck. 

Seriously, the title is a joke, but the mission is quite serious! Laurie is committed to crochet & her crochet comrades in hooks!

A little more about Fearless Leader:

Laurie lives on Camano Island, WA with her park ranger husband, two children, and assorted pets. Ms. Wheeler is an avid crochet enthusiast with an equal passion for hand spinning avantgarde art yarns to use in her whimsical & wacky creations.

Before making her passion her business, Ms. Wheeler lived and worked in over 23 countries and four continents. She specialized in inter-cultural and international relations, and found herself most often employed in marketing and sales training. Though she once did time as a make up artist for haute couture  fashion shows in the Middle East, it was a mind numbing experience for Ms. Wheeler, but it gave her a very real, inside look into the fashion industry.

Ms. Wheeler found she was happiest when training others to meet their potential, and began teaching life skill and self help classes in the mid-1990's while living in Bahrain. After returning to the USA in 1998, she returned to  crochet (after a 4 or 5 year hiatus)  to relieve stress, and to make things for her children. In 2001, she learned hand spinning, and a true fuzz monster was created.

The hook was made by CLF Member Jimbo and was unveiled at the "A very Twisted Halloween" event at Twisted in Portland, Oregon. October 30 & 31st 2009!

The event was kicked off by Fearless Leader, Laurie Wheeler, and Rockpool Candy (fiber-activist & artist extraordinaire) of Northern Ireland, with Jimbo the great hook maker!!
