WHO is the CLF?

Crocheters from around the world comprise the Crochet Liberation Front. The CLF is more than just a person, or a fearless leader (aka Laurie Wheeler / Camanomade), it is a movement of able hooksters across the globe! Our aim is simple: Global Domination of the Hook. This is a PRO crochet movement. Being pro-crochet means supporting crochet in all ways, from purchasing goods and services from real Crochet Friendly LYS's (dubbed so by crocheters!), to promoting designers, writers, and publications that focus on the wonderful hooky goodness that is crochet!  To see what we believe read the Manifesto Here!   You can also check out our CLF BLOG to see who has been awarded the Hookilicious Award or the Set My Picot Free! Award! Or check up on the annual Crochet Awards (the Flamies) sponsored by the CLF!

Where are you guys?

We have a message board on Ravelry.com which is our official headquarters. It is known by some as the coziest place on Ravelry! All are welcome! If you are not on Ravelry (or heard that is not crochet friendly, think again! Jess and Casey are WAY crochet friendly and since Ravelry is their baby trust us on that one!) sign up today! It's still in the beta testing phase so it may take a week or so to get the invite (they don't want to crash their servers!)... SO JOIN NOW if you haven't! We love Ravelry and we're CROCHETERS!

Who can Join?

Anyone! You don't even have to crochet to be a member, and since membership is free why not join us?

What started out as a late night rant and sarcastic joke has evolved into a REAL and true life adventure for all those who are passionate about their hooking!

What does the CLF do?

The CLF promotes crocheters and our favorite craft, crochet. We do this by blogging about relevant crochet related issues, we host a blog ring, we award designers, yarn & hook makers, as well as individual crocheters on our blog for outstanding, interesting and well made crochet items. We educate people about crochet, and support our members to be more, and do more creatively on our forum on Ravelry.com.

The Crochet Liberation Front keeps a membership driven list of  Crochet Friendly Local Yarn Stores. No one pays to get on the list. Find it HERE

We also have published a book written by members for crocheters, and have two more books planned for 2010.

We also seek to change the way the craft yarn and publishing industry views crochet, and how we can improve our situation as consumers, pattern writers and designers, and seek to change our market from a supply driven marketplace to a demand driven market place. A new Yahoo group has just been formed which offers download PDF files of CLF thank you letters, and other materials for members to use to send to relevant businesses. Any CLF member is able and is encouraged to contact businesses they appreciate for serving their crochet needs and thanking them, and likewise to contact publishers of books, magazines, and catalogues to include more crochet, better crochet, and crochet supplies.

Lastly, but certainly not least, we seek to educate the public that ALL crochet is made by hand, and is worth a fair market price. All crochet found in craft stores, and in retail outlets at low prices was made by sweat shop labor, which is intolerable. We discourage the purchase of these products, and support properly priced crocheted goods.

We encourage all crocheters who sell their work to do so with fair compensation in mind. "Don't Give It Away!" is one of our greatest themes.

Um this is a wierd Website, what gives?

Fearless leader does all the webmastering. Whereas, the CLF is most certainly growing, and the book is starting to sell well, we're still very homespun in our efforts...One day the CLF will have a professional website designer do the work, but until then, Laurie is learning webdesign as fast as she can!
