Cama Beach State Park is located on Camano Island, in Washington State.

It is one hour, twenty minutes north of Seattle. No Ferries needed to get to this island, just drive right on!

Cama Beach is a historic place having been used by human beings for over 1600 years as a summer retreat to rest, renew and rejuvenate.

Archaeology done at the park showed that Native Americans used the park as a summer camp, for preparing foods for winter. There were many kinds of fish, shell fish, and some mammal bones found in the midden site.
(Midden is a fancy name for garbage dump.)

In the late 1800's it was a logging camp, because of the tall straight trees that grow on Camano Island (poles literally).

In 1934 Cama Beach was opened as an "Autocourt Resort" Many families came to spend their summers at Cama, fishing, berry picking, rowing, playing games and I am sure, crocheting!

Due to a generous donation of the family who owned the resort Cama Beach is now a State Park. So, we like to call it upscale camping! Quaint cabins, and bungalows offer visitors from around the country (and the globe) the opportunity to have an affordable get away from the hustle and bustle of city life!
Laurie Wheeler, Founder and Fearless Leader of the CLF, knows much much more about Cama Beach, as her husband is the State Parks Area manager for the two State Parks on Camano Island.

She and her family lived at Cama Beach for almost three years before the renovations were complete.

"Cama Beach is a special place, I couldn't think of a better place to hold the CLF Retreat. Not just because it's near my home, it's because of the creative spirit that flows at Cama."  Laurie Wheeler
